Terms and Conditions

Rooflight specialists only 10-year workmanship guarantee Fixed written quotes 25 miles of Oxford

These terms apply to work we carry out for you and to your use of this website. They are written plainly on purpose. Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and where anything below conflicts with that Act, the Act wins.

We are Heritage Skylights Oxford of [to be confirmed], contactable at info@heritageskylightsoxford.co.uk.

Quotations

An estimate given by email before a survey is a range, not an offer, and it does not bind either of us. A written quotation issued after a survey is a fixed price and is open for 30 days from its date.

A fixed price covers the work described in it. It does not cover work created by something genuinely concealed at the time of survey: rot in a rafter under an intact covering, an unrecorded structural alteration, or wiring buried in a ceiling void. Where we find something of that kind, work stops, you are told what it is and what putting it right would cost, and nothing further is done until you have agreed in writing. You are free at that point to have somebody else do the additional work, or to stop altogether and pay only for what has been done.

Your right to cancel

Where a contract is agreed at your home or entirely at a distance, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you 14 days from the day the contract is made to cancel without giving a reason and without penalty. Tell us in writing and that is the end of it.

If you ask us to start inside those 14 days and then cancel, you are liable for the value of what has already been supplied, which may include a unit ordered specially for your roof. We will always confirm in writing before ordering, so this never arrives as a surprise.

Access, and what we need from you

We need access to the roof space and to the room below on the days set out in the programme, somewhere to place a tower or scaffold, and a mains socket. Where scaffolding must stand on a neighbour’s land or a pavement, obtaining the permission or the licence is something we will help with but cannot do in your name.

Please clear the room below the opening of anything you value. We sheet up and protect, but a working roof opening is dust and it is easier to move a piano than to clean one.

Programme

Dates given are worked to in good faith. Roofing is weather-dependent, and we will not open a roof in conditions where we cannot make it weathertight the same day. Where weather moves a date we tell you as early as we can. Delay of that kind does not entitle either of us to end the contract, and we do not charge for it.

Payment

Unless your quotation says otherwise, there is no deposit on standard work. Where a unit is made to order for your roof, we ask for the cost of the unit before it is ordered and the balance on completion. Invoices are due within 14 days. Late payment may carry statutory interest under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 where the customer is a business.

Title and risk

Materials remain ours until they are paid for. Risk in them passes to you on installation. This has no practical effect on a job that runs normally and exists for the one that does not.

What we install

We install new rooflights and replace existing ones. We do not undertake remedial roofing, re-covering, or general building work, and a quotation from us should never be read as covering it. Where a survey shows that the surrounding roof is not in a fit state to receive a new unit, we will tell you so and decline the work rather than fit into it.

Guarantee

Our workmanship carries a 10-year guarantee, set out in full on the guarantee page, which forms part of these terms. The units themselves carry the manufacturer’s own warranty, which we register for you and hand over on completion.

Liability

We are liable for loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, and for anything that cannot be limited in law, which includes death or personal injury caused by negligence and any form of fraud. We are not liable for loss that was not foreseeable at the time the contract was made, nor for business losses where the work is for a domestic customer. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights.

This website

The guides on this site are written to be accurate and general. They are not advice about your particular building, and your roof may be an exception to any of it. Nobody should specify or install from a web page alone, ours included. The content is ours and may be quoted with attribution but not republished wholesale.

Complaints and governing law

If something goes wrong, the complaints procedure sets out how it is handled and how quickly. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

How it runs

Four steps, no surprises

01

Survey

We look at the roof, the covering and the slope before we say anything about price.

02

Specification

The right unit and glazing for that roof and that orientation, in plain terms.

03

Fixed quote

Written, itemised and firm. The number does not move once work starts.

04

Install

Opening formed, unit set and weathered, covering made good. Notification is ours.
