This site is built to be usable by everybody, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or a browser with their own colours and text sizes applied. This page says what we have aimed at, what we have tested, and what to do if you hit something that does not work.
The standard we build to
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 at level AA, which is the benchmark used in UK accessibility law and the one an audit would measure us against.
In practice that has driven concrete decisions in the build rather than a box being ticked at the end. Body text sits at a size and line length meant for reading rather than for looking good in a screenshot. Headings run in order without skipping levels, so a screen reader user can navigate by structure. Photographs carry alternative text describing what is in them, and images that are purely decorative are marked as such so they are skipped rather than announced. Interactive elements work from the keyboard and show a visible focus outline, and the first thing the keyboard reaches on every page is a link that jumps straight to the main content. Motion respects the reduced-motion setting in your operating system, so animation stops if you have asked your device for less of it. The pages hold together at 200 per cent text size without forcing you to scroll sideways to read a line.
Colour contrast is measured against the AA thresholds rather than judged by eye. The brand’s yellow is never text or an icon on a light ground: against paper it sits at 1.28 to 1 and would be illegible whatever it did for the palette. On the dark navy bands it is a different proposition, reading at 12.58 to 1, and it is used there for small accent labels as well as for rules and marks.
Known limitations
Two, stated plainly.

The enquiry form is provided and hosted by a third party, Mortaro Group, and is embedded on our pages. We have specified an accessible form and we test it, but we do not control its markup and cannot fix a defect inside it ourselves. If the form gives you trouble, email us at the address below and your enquiry will be handled exactly as it would have been through the form, with no disadvantage to you.
Some guides use tables to compare specifications. A table is the honest way to present that information, but a wide one on a small screen has to scroll sideways within its own frame. We have kept them as narrow as the content allows and made the scrolling area reachable by keyboard.
How this was tested
Every page on this site, all 132 of them, has been checked automatically against the Level A and AA criteria that can be tested from the markup: alternative text, heading order, form labelling, link purpose, landmarks, table headers and page language.
The criteria that cannot be judged from markup were tested in a real browser, one page of each page type. Colour contrast was measured on every element carrying text, against the background actually painted behind it rather than the one the stylesheet suggests. Keyboard navigation was tested by pressing Tab through each page and recording where focus landed, confirming that every control is reachable, that focus follows the visual order, that nothing traps it, and that the skip link works. Text was resized to 200 per cent to confirm nothing overflows. Reduced-motion was emulated to confirm animation stops.
Checks at mobile size use a genuine 390 pixel viewport rather than a resized desktop window, which is a distinction that hides more defects than it sounds like it should.
That testing found real faults, and they were fixed rather than documented around: text that was the same colour as the panel behind it, a header row that overflowed once a telephone number was added to it, and card links that all announced themselves as “Read more” with nothing to tell them apart.
We have not commissioned an independent third-party audit, and we would rather say that than imply one. This statement was last verified on 11 August 2026.
Tell us what does not work
If any part of this site is hard to use, email info@heritageskylightsoxford.co.uk and say what you were trying to do, on what device, and with what assistive technology if you use one. We will reply within five working days and tell you either that it is fixed or when it will be.

Reports of this kind are useful rather than a nuisance. Every accessibility defect found by a real person is one an automated check missed.
If you would prefer the content of any page in a different format, ask and we will send it.
Enforcement
The Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for enforcing the Equality Act 2010 in relation to services. If you raise something with us and are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service.
This statement was prepared on 11 August 2026 and applies to heritageskylightsoxford.co.uk. It will be revised whenever the site changes materially or a defect reported here is resolved.
Four steps, no surprises
Survey
We look at the roof, the covering and the slope before we say anything about price.
