What to tell us
Four things get you a useful answer instead of a holding reply.
Where the building is. The village or the postcode is enough. It settles which planning authority you are dealing with and whether you are inside the 25 miles of road we cover.
What the roof is made of. Slate, plain clay tile, concrete interlocking tile, stone slate, or a flat roof with felt or a membrane. If you are not sure, a photograph from the garden tells us more than a description does.
Which room, and what you want from it. Lighting a landing, converting a loft, or opening up a kitchen extension are three different jobs with three different answers, even where the same unit ends up going in.
Whether the building is listed or in a conservation area. If you do not know, say so and we will check. It is the single fact that most changes what can be fitted, and it is quick to establish from the address.
What happens next
You get a written reply with a realistic range and an honest answer on permission. If the job is straightforward and clearly inside what we install, we will offer a survey date. If it is not, we will tell you that in the first reply rather than after a visit.
Surveys involve going into the roof space, so somebody needs to be able to get us to the loft hatch. The survey is where a range becomes a fixed price, because rafter depth, existing build-up and the state of the covering are the things that move a figure and none of them can be seen from outside.
The ground we cover
Oxford and 25 miles of road around it, which takes in most of Oxfordshire and crosses into Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. We are a service-area business and work from our vans rather than a shop, so there is no trade counter to visit. If your roof is outside the radius we will say so straight away.
What we do not take on
We install new rooflights and replace failed ones. Remedial roofing work, re-covering and general building are outside what we do, and we would rather tell you that in a sentence now than after you have waited a week for a survey.
